The custom motorcycle visionary Paul Yaffe constructively created a blend of BMW essence, classic aesthetics, and iconic standards into the design of this new model. Crafted from a solid block of aluminum weighing 400 pounds, the front wheel measures 26″ x 5.5″ and cradles a meticulously handmade 180mm wide front tire. To accommodate this distinctive front wheel, the frame underwent stretching and raking modifications. Special triple trees were ingeniously engineered to adjust the trail measurement precisely, ensuring optimized handling for this unique configuration. He also restructured the overall design to blend style and performance for this new model.
Paul Yaffe paid attention to every detail with the craft of BMW R 18 One Eight “C” to create a functional blend of style, performance, and elegance. Adopting the aesthetic reminiscent of the iconic 50’s Mercury Lead Sled, the team skillfully designed numerous distinctive components and altered existing elements of the R 18. A bespoke steel front fender was meticulously crafted from scratch to enhance the overall customization. Several modifications were made to the initial R 18 fairing; the model was carefully cut into multiple sections and reconfigured to align with the correct headlight position and seamlessly integrate with the new front wheel. Also, a distinct chin spoiler was innovatively created to address the space between the fairing and the fuel tank, effectively concealing the radiator. Furthermore, a set of bespoke Yaffe Monkey Bars was exclusively crafted to harmonize with the overall design.
Paul and his team conceived an advanced air tank and distribution system, along with a specialized frame beneath each side of the saddlebags. This framework was devised to house crucial components such as required air storage tanks, a substantial air compressor, and all the essential controls, valves, and solenoids indispensable for the system’s efficient support and operation.
